What Does It Mean to Live by Faith? (The Real Truth Defined – Part 1)

by | Life

When we really start to enjoy God, it’s important we remember how we got there.

Galatians 3:9 MSG
9-10 So those now who live by faith are blessed…
(Emphasis added)

What does it mean to live by faith?

Galatians 3:5, 6 MSG
5-6 Answer this question: Does the God who lavishly provides you with his own presence, his Holy Spirit, working things in your lives you could never do for yourselves, does he do these things because of your strenuous moral striving or because you trust him to do them in you? Don’t these things happen among you just as they happened with Abraham? He believed God, and that act of belief was turned into a life that was right with God.
(Emphasis added)

  1. It’s realizing we can’t “make” ourselves—it’s the work of the Holy Spirit.
  2. It’s knowing true power comes by faith working through obedience, not work (or effort) alone.

Two ways are wrong:

  1. Working hard (to please God) without a firm understanding that without His power, we’re done; we’ll never make it. There’s no badge for me to win that says, “Look what I did!
  2. It’s believing God can change us, but not obeying Him.

Both of these get us killed.

Romans 8:6 AMPC
6 Now the mind of the flesh [which is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit] is death [death that comprises all the miseries arising from sin, both here and hereafter]. But the mind of the [Holy] Spirit is life and [soul] peace [both now and forever].

Galatians 5:19-21 NLT
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

I need to have the mind of Christ.

Romans 12:2 AMPC
2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

1 Corinthians 2:16 AMPC
16 For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.

Part two later…

Love you guys.
